Objective: To learn how to write a four paragraph essay including an introduction paragraph, a body, and a conclusion.
Topic paragraphHook- Capture your audience's attention a with a question, quote, interesting fact,or narrative personal experience.
Information- General background information about the topic to "fill-in" your reader. It needs to relate to the hook and thesis. Stay focused. Topic + Claim + 3 points of support = Thesis sentence |
Example Topic ParagraphDo you like to go back to school shopping? I do! Every year hundreds of students go back to school shopping with their parents to pick out their wardrobe for the first week of school. Some students go to the stores looking for the hottest clothing on the market; while others go to the stores looking for clothing that meet their uniform requirements. Returning to school is a blast when your school does not require uniforms, because you get to express yourself, wear the hottest styles, and learn about other individuals.

Body of the Paragraph
1. Look back at your thesis statement and find your first claim and write that next to paragraph one. 2. Brainstorm for your first claim by drawing a web. 3. Reread the section of the article that addresses your claim. 4. Write a topic sentence with transition words. 5. Add in your own knowledge of the topic this should be 1-2 sentences. 6. Cite text evidence directly from the text. 7. Write an conclusion sentence that paraphrase the first claim. 8. Repeat this process for paragraph 3 and 4. |

Schools that do not require uniforms, support their students to choose what they want to wear and allow students to wear the newest styles. I don't know about you, but I like wearing the newest clothes. So in closing every school should not require uniforms. |
